Sicily’s Capital of the Baroque
Noto is a fabulous baroque beauty. Thirty minutes drive from Syracuse, though it is home to beautiful churches, it was not the charm of Ortigia the town is home to one of Sicily’s most beautiful historical centres.
While one can enjoy each of these monuments individually, it is when they took together that the buildings in the historic centre of Noto make this city so extraordinary. It is, therefore, necessary to spend a little time strolling around and walking down some random streets to discover the surprises that the Baroque architects so thoughtfully included.
Noto is home to numerous other beautiful churches and palaces, and the highlight of any visit to this unique community is to stroll its streets and admire the fantastic architecture.
The trip to Noto can be productively combined with a visit to the Villa Romana del Tellaro, that with the beautiful mosaics, and perhaps with a stop for a swim and walk through nature at the Nature Reserve of Vendicari.
